These past few months, I started to focus on living mindfully.
I try to breathe with focus, calm down my thoughts, and relax in the middle of daily tasks. I begin to look at my life in a whole new way and slowly avoid juggling so many things at the same time…
To top it all of, I tried my best to live in the moment.
After a month or so of doing this, I noticed that my days became less stressful. My level of happiness stepped up a few notches. Generally speaking, my life got better in all sorts of ways.
By now, I think you secretly intrigued and want to know how I did it!
And now, why don’t we all take this opportunity to learn how we can achieve a mindful way of living? Check out these five essential tips that can guide you on your way!
1. Get in touch with your senses
Connecting to your senses helps you understand your innermost actions, thoughts, and feelings. Living a mindful lifestyle means listening carefully to our bodies and minds.
Highly mindful people do regular self check-ups: they try to figure out what brings them peace and what causes their stress. Doing this helps them detect both the good and bad things surrounding them. In effect, they look for ways on how they can make things better for themselves.
You can try doing some yoga exercises every morning. It helps us find inner peace and get in touch with our mind, body, and spirit.
Meditation is a crucial component of mindfulness. Immersing yourself in meditation each day, even just for at least 15-30 minutes, works like a pillar in your life.
When you meditate, you let go of everything. You just EXIST. You breathe, slow down, loosen up, and JUST LIVE.
This act of meditation, when practiced daily, calms the mind. In effect, you start to see and understand things with clarity.
You find solutions to problems instead of having outbursts of emotions. It becomes more comfortable for you to restrain your negative feelings and be at peace.
3. Savor the little things
Sometimes we are so busy doing our work and obligations that we take the little things for granted.
I’ll give you some examples: This morning when your spouse made you a cup of coffee for breakfast, or yesterday when your three-year-old daughter gave us a flower from the garden…or last week when one of your neighbors gave you a bowl of salad for dinner.
I’m pretty sure that you’ve heard the saying “little things count” countless times already. Well, let me tell you that they REALLY do!
Each moment in our lives is precious.
Let’s all try to be mindful of the little moments, small wins, and sweet nothings. These things are priceless! Plus, they all make up a massive part of how we go about every day.
4. Break the pattern
When you wake up, what is the very first thing that comes to your mind? Is it your loving spouse lying beside you? Do you ponder on how this week is going well? Are you happy that you have such jolly and healthy kids? Or do you just turn off the alarm, jump off the bed, and head to the shower like clockwork? Then you prepare for work, wake your kids up, munch on your breakfast for 5 minutes, and face the entire day!
I know from experience that this is what’s considered “normal” for modern-day living. Every day, we all go about our tasks and responsibilities. But, the sad thing is that we forget to pause and give ourselves a break.
Mindful living means pausing for a while. It means taking some time off to unwind and take care of our physical, emotional, and mental health.
So, take it easy. Take it slow. There’s a full life ahead of you, waiting to be cherished.

5. Always count your blessings
Before you go to bed tonight, why don’t you allow some time to just breathe and think about the good things happening in your life?
Before capping off each day, make it a habit to count your blessings. Mindfulness is about looking at the bright side of things.
When we think of the positive, our body also releases what we call “happy hormones.” These hormones serve as our motivation to do better in whatever tasks we are working on.
6. Do one thing at a time
Many people have this misconception that multi-tasking is productive.
Actually, it’s the opposite!
When we work on multiple tasks at the same time, we lose our focus. We only get to put divided attention to the many things we are doing simultaneously. This is also draining and inefficient.
Mindful living is about concentrating and giving your full attention to what you are doing– and multi-tasking is an enemy of this principle. I know it is a bit hard, especially for working or full-time moms to do this, but … just try!
